MM would argue that google is more important than the information it provides I can understand the view...
I read two encyclopedias (albeit small ones, not Brittanica :o) by age 10... and a third one World Book by 12 or 13.. It's nice to easily corroborate the vast amount of useless knowledge I haven't yet forgotten :O) I do like the net and google. Yeah I was odd.

Whether it is more important than the info though can be answered simply IMHO by... without the information ... google would have no meaning or purpose.. Sounds good though for intellectuals at parties :O) 1960's coffee houses were rife with those :O)

I'd say MM's point is also to do ( hand in hand with your different way of thinking analogy) with the entire shift to instant communication and knowledge based society.. A simply HUGE cultural shift... I think laterally more than straight line (likely 'cause I've ADD :O) Google is fantastic for that.. tangents are more easily resolved :O) I believe lineal (straight line I assume you mean) thinking is more common and easier in that it provides more frequent uncomplicated outcomes :O) Look at tv today and you see Americon Idol etc.. Rome had circuses.. :o) The shift has different effects on different societal segments.. The hottest commodity on the net is .... porn..

Now I didn't say religion :O) but yes both those books I mentioned have been perverted beyond belief.. and some of the messages leave little doubt as to a less than benevolent intent...

I do not think a single war was ever fought over Finnigans Wake-lol I rest my case :O)
