In all honesty, I think it will be the typical election, 40% for any Dem and 40% for any Repub. Of the 20% swing vote, the plan is always to try to get 10.001% of them.

The real test, IMO, will be what garbage the Dems can find against Thompson if he gets the nomination, and how they can misstate his positions on the various issues.

Depends on what he has to offer. If it's the same old morality crap that has no place in politics as guaranteed by our Constitution, he will get blown out IMO. If he can offer to return the country to some sense of fiscal sanity and push the country in a positive direction in energy independence and medical science, the he might have a shot. He would also have to offer something on Iraq.
