Hi Thomas ..

I'm not a fan of corn based ethanol either ..

I don't see it as a food vs fuel issue; however,
as the DDGs are a great animal feed and will be
utilized as such .. Ethanol is just such a poor
substitute for gasoline .. I'm hoping that the market
for ethanol is restricted to MBTE replacement as
an octane enhancer and maybe some limited E85 in the
crop growing areas .. From an energy density perspective
and ability to integrate with the existing transportation
fuels infrastructure; butanol seems a better choice ..

While the potential resource base is huge; oil shales
are the least attractive of the petroleum derivatives ..
Let's exploit the tar sands and heavy oils ( Orinoco )
first .. Scalability is a real issue for all currently
contemplated extraction schemes from these reserves and
not likely to offset depletion losses from conventional
crudes ..

It's a big problem if one's intent is to maintain
the status quo going forward ..

I'm thinking some combination of bio-fuels, new nukes,
large scale hydro, wind/solar/tidal, will allow a
more or less stable transition to a predominately
electrified future transport grid ..

Triff ..
