What a private citizen does is one thing. What we allow our government to do is quite another.

Say that you know of someone who has hurt your child. If you go out and assault that person you will still go to jail for the assault even with the mitigating circumstances. We do not allow cops going out and assaulting that same person either. If they do so then the cops go to jail as well...there is no legal justification for their actions nor should there be.

I know plenty of parents who do not bother to keep track of their children's whereabouts. The biological drive to shelter children is strong is some and weak in others. I know plenty of parents who let their children ride bikes in the street, eat highly processed junk foods, drink soda pop by the gallon full and watch TV until their brains are fried.

I don't know if they would throw themselves in front of a bus for their children because they won't forgo a golf game in order to spend time with the same children. I also know plenty of people who would throw themselves in front of a bus for perfect strangers.

People are odd things.
