My grad school roomate suffered from depression. About a year out of grad school i met him on a street in NY by chance. He didnt know who the hell i was. He handed me a printed message that said he had electoshock days ago and didnt remember much of anything. Anyway he got better but after his second marriage about 20 years later, he died of colon cancer. He had told me about 6 months earlier before his cancer was detected that he had never been so happy as he was at that time. God doesnt like people to be happy i surmised about a year later when his wife returned one of my unanswered and concerned calls with the message that Larry was indeed dead.
