It's an "overkill" build-out that we will never need. The only possible conventional opponent is China, which we will never fight. If they should go nuts in the Taiwan straight, we could knock out anything they have with our 15s, 16s, and 18s.

Of course, if we never fight China it may be because we have weapons we never (have to) use.
