There are reasons for gated communities. Crime creates them here and there is little difference between our criminals and palestinian terrorists. Its cool to be a gated community with a couple of hundred nukes. Hell, there aint no Starbucks in the Gaza strip anyway so nowhere to go and for the gaza strippers, the gate saves from committing suicide so thats a good thing, no???

Geode, I know it's futile, but I thought I'd point out, for other readers rather than you, because of lot of them can understand things, the Berlin wall and the Israel wall are different in one essential way. See if you can figure it out.

I'll give you a hint. The fence along the southern border of the USA is built for the same purpose as the Israel wall and both have a different purpose than the Berlin wall.

Here's another hint, one is to keep people prisoner, meaning to stop them escaping away from the people who built the wall. The other two are to stop people getting IN to where the people who built the fences live.

As far as "first gated country", it's obvious that you have limited historical knowledge. Ask Google about Hadrian's Wall, the Great Wall of China, and while they aren't whole countries, there were large areas such as London, Avignon and others which were walled cities of extensive proportions.

Israel is very much far from the first "gated country". The USA is very well gated. Most countries try to gate their borders to keep people out.

These are subtle difference Geode, but maybe you can see the differences. Think of prisons and think of you locking your doors. The locking action is different in each case. Hint: you lock your doors not to keep yourself stuck inside.
