Peter Dierks, re: "Others don't want us to do preventative planning at all. Or do anything that might actually PREVENT another murdering barbarian attack."

That is partly a failure in leadership. Remember that one party was willing to accept dishonesty at the very top to retain power, and that their President took a poll every day to find out what was popular rather than leading.

Stop it Peter, it's just too sad to think back on the 90s.

Back then we had crooks but they normally didn't dress up as pious Christians spouting off about how everyone else must live their lives while they engaged in the very acts they criticized as sinful. They didn't normally assign themselves to committees to eradicate the sexual exploitation of our young while simultaneously engaging in such perverse acts with the knowledge of their congressional peers. They didn't appoint an Attorney General to act as a political arm of their political party. They didn't appoint a swarm of political hacks to critically important positions in government for which they were woefully inept and unqualified. They didn't start a war they couldn't win and then keep it going based on hope for a miracle while good men young and women died and killed for them. They didn't lose the respect of the world. They didn't lend a rocket boost to the cause of world terrorism. They didn't generationally alienate one of the most prevalent religions in the world. And they didn't start the process of eroding our most basic freedoms which were secured at such a cost to our predecessors.

And they certainly didn't accuse the other side of the thing you've just parroted, i.e., ""Others don't want us to do preventative planning at all. Or do anything that might actually PREVENT another murdering barbarian attack."

So if I were you I wouldn't spend too much time inviting comparisons between then and now. But maybe you don't realize how pathetically out of touch with reality you sound when you write that drivel? Ed
