It's just that you seem to have decided that Wolfowitz's own statements are to be believed, even though they have been contradicted by at least one other person with first-hand knowledge of the events.

Sure, why wouldn't I presume his statements are true? If he's out and out lying, I would imagine the board will recommend he depart because he's out and out lying. Basically, I haven't convicted him in my mind, and from what (little) I know of the story his actions seem entirely reasonable.

On the other hand any World Bank employees that say they are "unable to do their jobs" because they are so consumed by the alleged "scandal" do not seem reasonable to me - they seem like whiney little fatcat government employees that deserve a fire under their seat.

"Oh, I'm so outraged that Wolfie's girlfriend got a $50k raise when $15k seems more appropriate that I can't process this $200 million loan to Kenya. Oh, it's soooo making me unable to do my job, boo hoo".

Gimme a break, that lazy WB employee should be shown the door. Bankers are a dime a dozen.
