These aren't the first White-House-buddies appointees who tripped and stumbled and flailed their way through the bureaucracies.

Definitely agree. But I've never seen so many.

If you skip back across the recent past, say back to the early 70s or even earlier, you can think of some, but not so many.

Moreover, there will be some sterling appointments. I can't think of a one from Bush II. Surely there is some one. I would have argued for Colin Powell but he certainly will not go down as a distinguished secretary of state. Whitman might have been one; but the Bush people kept her from doing her job as she saw it.

Interesting early returns from tonights republican debate. Only two candidates had a positive rating over 20%; Romney with a 34% positive rating and Ron Paul with a 48% positive rating! Romney is no surprise, Paul's showing is stunning.
