I'd rather see oil prices rise. The high oil prices are having the desired effect of creating a whole new alternative energy industry, which on multiple levels is good for the US economy. First it gets us off of fossil fuels and it creates a bunch of new companies.

You just said there shouldn't be an oil industry. Now there s/b one but regulated so as to eliminate profits.

If you really wanted to reduce oil use you'd want higher prices not lower.

"good for our economy and environment."

As for economy, decades of real world experience show free markets unhindered by governments work better than command economies.

As for environment, there is no "environmentally acceptable" energy or should I say no alternvative that enviros will approve of. Coal is dirty, they say. And has to be mined, defacing the land. Uranium is deadly dangerous enviros said and they successfully stopped the construction of new nuke plants for decades. Wind power kills raptors and bats (and who knows what else - enviros are already starting to complain - wait till its really widespread. Ethanol pollutes much like petroleum based fuels, plus widespread use will drive up food prices for the worlds poor.
