I read the article. Tim, we live in a country where there is now a legal basis for the President to declare martial law for any reason. Where at least one of the military academies has been essentially taken over by right wing fundamentalists. Where one of the two major parties has been openly talking about engineering a permanent majority. Where the Whitehouse is asserting direct control over the Department of Justice and there is direct evidence that they have replaced US attorney's who didn't pursue bogus accusations against members of the opposite party. Conservative talking points are picked up, uncritically, by the media in their efforts to be "balanced". Fox is owned, body and soul, by them. I disagree with either the factual claim, or the spin, of just about every statement in your post. One statement that is correct is - "Where one of the two major parties has been openly talking about engineering a permanent majority." But there is nothing wrong with that. A "permanent majority" wouldn't really be permanent, nothing is. The hope was to have a majority in congress similar to the one that the Democrats had from FDR to Newt Gingrich. And it would be a majority based on getting votes not on force, or subverting the democratic process. The only thing wrong with the vision was that it was unrealistic. Well maybe that isn't the only thing. Any party having such a long run in power is problematic, but there is nothing inherently wrong with the idea. And here is a guy who thinks things are so rough for the conservatives that a military coup might be the solution. No, and here is a guy who did not express any such thought. He wasn't talking about things being tough for conservatives as a justification for any coup. More importantly he wasn't calling for a coup.
