"Also having a majority think the war was a mistake, isn't the same as having a majority think we should pull out now (or in a year or whatever)."

Tim, most of the polls indicate that a majority favor withdrawal, either immediately or on some short term timetable. So I would think it is a majority that both opposes the war and favor a withdrawal, although the question about whether they support the war or oppose it usually isn't asked in the same poll. So maybe it isn't a valid assumption that if they support a withdrawal they are opposed to the war...

re: 60% of the country against it maybe, but not 60% of Republicans. Also having a majority think the war was a mistake, isn't the same as having a majority think we should pull out now (or in a year or whatever).

There are a lot of Republican that favor withdrawal. And a large majority of independents. Plus you have the dilution of 10 candidates. An anti-war Republican candidate would probably draw support of each of the other candidates.

BTW I forget to mention that Romney also did a good job. I think McCain will soon be out of the running unless something dramatic happens. If I had to handicap it at this point in time with these candidates I would put my money on Romney winning the nomination.

So it looks like a Mormon against either a Woman or a Black. Who da thunk it?
