>>We will not surrender our country to terrorists. They have failed to cripple the elected government, and they have failed to intimidate us into submission. Iraqis reject their vision of a future whose hallmarks are bloodshed and hatred.<<

The supposed Iraqi government is a political farce which is regularly bombarded with mortar fire and rockets by the ferocious Iraqi resistance to the US occupation. It is utterly powerless. All the participants at Sharm el-Sheikh know that.

The fact that this conference is happening is good because it opens doors for genuine talks between the Bush Administration and Iran, Syria, the Arab League, led by Saudi Arabia and several others. The Bush Administration must decide if it wants such talks or whether it prefers to try to cut the Gordian knot with a US full-scale air and ground attack on Iran in order to gain the Middle East.

Everyone at this conference (including the US delegation)knows that the Bush Administration's attempt to rule first Iraq and then the rest of the Middle East by means of US military force has failed. The US can choose to withdraw from its Empire as Britain did, peacefully, or it can choose to attack Iran.
