People got sucked in by the rebates on computers that required MSN for the rebate to be paid. It was a great scheme. A license to steal 10 bucks per month on a CC sounds like a very profitable venture. I admire their tenacity

I was happy to see this case today. I bet I'm not the only one who was victimized by a similar scam. I remember buying a laptop from Dell or Gateway a few years ago that came with a "free" six month MSN ISP trial. They required your credit card info to initiate the "free" trial. I never really used it, but just try to cancel when the "free" period draws to a close. They make sure they collect at least 2 months from you via credit card before you finally get them to stop the account. Imagine the amount of money made when multiplied by all the people so duped! I think that is the only time I have practically screamed at telephone answerers for a company..

I fell for the same thing when we bought a PS2. Got 6 months "free" AOL dialup. I thought I might use it when on the road.

Ended up paying several months of service I didn't use at all.

I'd never fall for that one again.

The same thing happened to me when I joined Classmates.com...I joined the year of my class reunion with my credit card, I tried everything to cancel the membership after a year, including sending an email..nothing worked, and they charged my card again.
After TWO years I finally was able to stop them from charging my credit card. I'm sure I wasn't the only one with that problem.
