"America is a conservative nation"

I'd say America WAS a conservative nation. Bush has gone a long way toward reversing that trend.

What makes you think general American opinion is correct?

When your talking about who is to the right or the left, it has to be compared to something. Right or left of what. In this case Kerry is to the left of general American opinion. That statement can be (and is) true, and trying to establish the middle of American opinion as either right or not right is irrelevant to the issue. If Kerr's positions where somehow the exact perfect opinions that in every way would bring the most justice and practical benefit to the country <gag>, they still would be to the left of general American opinion, so Kerry would not be "right of center".
