[edit]Israeli Invasion
Israel, buckling under the weight of economic pressure applied by Egypt, resolved to invade the Sinai Peninsula, but kept near-total secrecy about its plans. During an interview on his seventieth birthday, on September 21, 1956, Ben Gurion declared: "As long as it is for me to decide, we shall make no war. ... I will never make war. Never."[17]
At that time, the border with Jordan was clearly Israel's most volatile, as Israel's heaviest reprisals against Arab attacks were taking place on this front, and on October 3, Israel withdrew its representatives from the Israeli-Jordanian Mixed Armistice Commission. When plans for the invasion of the Sinai grew, Israeli intelligence "leaked" information regarding the imminent invasion of Jordan. Egypt, Syria and Jordan heeded this warning and formed a tripartite alliance on October 24. When the Israeli Defense Force began mobilizing on October 27, UNTSO staff and others were convinced the target of the planned attack would be Jordan.
On October 29, 1956, Israel air-dropped a batallion of paratroopers near the Mitla Pass. From there, the paratroopers moved along the southern Sinai and linked up with a ground force heading southwest toward Sharm el-Sheikh. The invasion was a dramatic military victory for Israel.[18].....from previous link in wikipedia
