Whenever I was in that situation, knowing that it's better to get a job when you HAVE a job than not, I usually managed to find myself a higher paying position BEFORE my employer laid me off. My loyalty = ZERO. Actually, maybe less than zero since I considered it icing on the cake if I could leave them in a lurch and screwed with some unfinished software project with no hope of a new guy getting up to speed in time to hit the deadline.
