Big news at the time.

ALL the papers.

Try Googling 'Loral' and 'China', or maybe Loral and 'federal prosecution' or some such, and you can read about the convictions all over again. <g>

(Would have been about 1999 or so for the convictions, if memory serves. Was one of the largest ever corporate fines, at the time. Don't remember when charges were first filed, sometime early in the Clinton second term I think, but I *do* remember that Loral claimed that they thought the software they allowed China to use --- to analyze the data from a rocket launch failure which cost them a communications satellite --- was OK for export... but Sammy argued that it was an illegal 'dual use' technology transfer, software on the banned list, and that it gave China the ability to greatly *increase* the targeting accuracy of their strategic missiles.)
