Tax deferred accounts at TD Ameritrade - cash account only:

- Only writing covered calls and buying married puts are allowed. Options settle the next trading day.

- Purchasing securities before the using funds from selling securities settle is not allowed. The account will be restricted and any subsequent transaction will have to go through a broker - presumably at broker assisted commission rate.

I argued - to no avail - by giving this example:

On Monday sell 100 shares of ABC at $ 100. On Thursday I can be sure that my account will be credited with $ 10,000.

Why can't I buy 100 shares of XYZ at $ 100 on Monday , - unless TD Ameritrade has any doubt that the funds will not be there on Thursday? If you are not sure, aren't you doubting your own credibility?

"Sir, it is not our rule but SEC."

Yeah, a good come back! I did not bother to check.
