can science ever understand and controll the ego and id ......and would it necessarily be good thing if they could.....? For starters, I'd guess that the concept of id is most likely not terrible good, so in grave danger of being replaced. Ego is flexible enough as a concept that is most likely safe. AFAIK, anything that is not fictional is amenable to scientific understanding, and possibly manipulation or control. Mental processes fall into this category. Things like Souls fall outside this category, so are safe from science (at the expense of being fictional).
