Not necessarily true. All printer manufacturers want you to buy their ink. That's where the money is. Some even have a computer chip that will not allow you to use more than 1 or 2 replacement cartridges before they disable the use of them. If your sister wants to avoid this happening she needs to get the "real" HP cartridges. What I have done with a family members printer is use the cheapie until i got the warning about "illegal" cartridges, replaced the cheapie with a real cartridge which fools the printer and then putting the cheapie back in and everything was fine.
