You can make more than that as a consultant at Cisco. When these record companies get done with their accounting, most top stars end up owing them money the first few years. PBS did a great Bio last week on the guy who founded Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun. Near the end they sneaked in how much money he beat his artists out of in the early years. Best thing I have ever read on this subject is an online story called. "Intemperance." The rise of a major, [fictional] rock band over a twenty year period.
