I think that may be abit of hyperbole.......could you detail the "irrivocable" damage?
Yes ,we all know how the USSR came to dominate the middle east during the cold war. :-)

Nadine, I think part of the odd thinking of the USA is that each 4 July they celebrate independence from King George III [rich irony there with the USA now run by King George II]. So, when an opportunity comes to poke Britain in the eye, it's kind of compulsive, whether it's sending money to the IRA to blow up families in Omagh or supporting Islamic Jihad against Britain, France and Israel in the British defence of the Suez Canal.

..and with the switch to supporting Israel, things have just gone SO much better in the ME!

If ONLY we'd stuck with the Eisenhower policy, perhaps the Arabs wouldn't have become Soviet clients. Maybe the Israelis would have?
