The National Guard is certainly a huge issue. But the standing Armed Services are also an issue. People criticise Clinton for cutting back on the military; Bush has destroyed it, in readiness and reputation, for nothing in Iraq.

Our military, at this point in time, we can't stand up to anyone. And everyone in the world knows that can't deal with an popular insurrection. The major part of being a "superpower" is bluff; we played that card and lost.
