Did they need to? Yes, In my view they certainly did need to. Compare like with like. Times of conflict and times of peace. The people I have met living primitive lifestyles were happy enough by any comparison to modern society counterparts. Besides you have matters exactly ass backwards. 180 degrees out of phase. The IPCC are the forward looking people who are seeing what's going on. The environmental skeptics say all is well, we don't need to do anything or change our ways. Life goes on. We need the natural world. If the world was magically 10 times bigger tomorrow, there would be a huge boom for the current population of humans. Therefore we need to conserve what we already have. Crichton and Rand have no place in the modern world moving forward. They would condemn humans of the world to stay the same and perish in the erroneous ways of the present.
