According to what I heard on NPR yesterday, Citibank announced they are committing $50 BILLION over the next 5 or 10 years (didn't hear the entire report) to investing in solutions to solve the problem of Global Warming.

If you listened closely to that piece on NPR you would have heard that 31 Billion is set aside for investments in "green companies," what ever that means.

Of the rest only a few bucks will be set aside for building "green" buildings. However, in the face of rising energy costs, I suspect that these projects have a nice payout anyway.

Problem is that "global warming" is at such a large scale that anything man can do isn't going to have much of an effect, nor change the trend any time soon. Buying compact fluorescent bulbs might make me feel better, like I am doing something, but if the Chinese and other developing countries continue to spew out pollution as they grow, little I do, or my neighbors, state, or country does, is going to offset that.

My SI subscription was the best $200 (or whatever) I ever spent, and from what you told me it got even better.

Heat pumps are a great idea, especially for heating in a place with hard winters like the US. Hand in hand with nuclear power stations, of course.
