All of which means no mid eastern oil to the West, a situation that the West (and probably China and India) can't allow to exist.

I don't know if its correct, but a friend told me that the US only imports 7% of its oil from the Mideast. So if there were a disruption from the ME, prices of course would rocket, but the actual US loss of oil wouldn't be that huge (in the immediate term, at least). Not sure who the biggest consumers of ME oil are, perhaps China, Japan and Europe?

Here's a quote from a Google search. I only know the 7% number from conversation and it may be wrong, but it makes sense.

the USA imports most of its oil from Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Nigeria, and, to lesser extent, Iraq

MY, you're being cheerful today!

A regional war on US pull-out without a stable Iraqi gov't is a certainty. The Saudis have already said they will intervene to protect the Sunnis if the US pulls out. Now the Saudi population is too small for them to do it thenselves. But they can buy a lot of mercenaries.

I don't think Russia would sit this out either.

These guys say 20% of US oil imports come from the Persian Gulf area.

Europe got 52% (!!!!) of its oil from Saudi. Europe's in too. China has sufficient proven reserves to be self-sufficient for a good while if they can get the eqpt to get it.

Why CAN'T our liberal frends see this???? It doesn't matter if George nade a mistake or lied his way into this; we're there. The ONLY thing that matters now is how we get out.
