I looked it up earlier because I was curious. Def #2 has no racial component-
dictionary.reference.com

I wasn't sure it had one any longer. I know it originated as def #1- but that is no longer exclusive.

Michael, re: "no a redneck is a blue collar guy with a HS education or less who works in factories or in construction and whose neck gets red, usually because of scott but often irish descent. Its like calling a black man lazy or a woman emotional."

Damn, I didn't know that. If that's true then half my family are rednecks. But none of them are what I'd consider red necked.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood my use of the word red neck. I have nothing against blue collar guys with factory jobs, and Scottish or Irish blood. I've got some Sottish/Irish blood and my wife is majority Irish blood. Most of my family in the last generation was HS educated or less. And most of them were very well informed, very free thinking and very compassionate. I doubt they'd have voted for Bush/Cheney and they sure as hell wouldn't have supported a war unless it was a clearly justified war.

But I think my definition of red necked is the more common definition. Ask Larry the Cable Guy. Ed
