don't who this Sowell is and what he's written in the past but when you live in one of the most important democracies in the world and suggest that maybe a military coup may be needed to clean up its problems, he has stepped beyond what I consider to be reasonable dialogue.

HE isn't saying that a military coup may be needed to clean up the problems of a successful democracy. He's speculating how the problems might become worse, and how the US may become possibly less democratic, but particularly much less free, while at the same time gaining all sorts of practical problems.

Sorry, that's not how I interpreted what he said......and I don't think I am alone in that interpretation.

He had plenty of room to speculate on those matters, but he didn't.

He hasn't shown any concern in the past for human freedom. Given his writings, his concern is most likely that money will become less free. In other words, he is calling for a Latin American-style military coup for the same reason it always happens in banana Republics - because money doesn't want to be held accountable to people. He worries that democracy will increase, threatening capitalism.
