And violent attacks are violent attacks, but someone slapping me in the face, isn't the same as someone carpeting the US with nuclear missiles.

Up above, you are talking about a physical act. Prejudice is not a physical act; its an emotion. The reason why some people act on their prejudice and kill has nothing to do with the degree of their bias but rather it has to do with their value system and their indifference to the law of man.
