I too, as you know, am not a fan of *any* one bunch getting their hands on TOO MANY levers of power all at once.

But, assuming ceuterus paribus, (continuation of current trends), no timely outside intervention by a committee of Party elders or G.O.P. solons short-circuiting the damage Dubbya is doing to the grand old party, etc.... Then, there is still at least ONE other possible 'outside event' that could have the possibility of derailing this trend of Dems ascending: a vigorous and well-funded third party run.

Polling reports the American people have seldom been more receptive to a 'third way'... and there are rumblings that Bloomberg (and a chunk of his $5 Billion) might start a run... talked up by the CA Governor, among others.
