Who was it ..."No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

W.C. Fields, I think.

Hillary>.....any price gouging has occurred as a result of these unanticipated shortages. I am a supporter of legislation that would give federal and state regulators new authority to prosecute price gouging....<

This logik is really amazing. Prosecution of price gouging......hell, why not prosecution of price gouging by the medical system, hospitals being the most egregious examples? Lack of transparent pricing for hospital charges is a far greater public scourge than ANYTHING the refineries ever could have done!

Damn, I hate being a victim of the publik's ignorance. As I posted before, the oil companies DESERVE the blame for allowing the false perceptions and ignorance to continue. It just escapes me that no filling stations have any kind of honest PR about the cost of gas, the economics of refining, seasonal demand dynamics, comparative profit/PE ratios, etc.

Is government ownership the end game? Or, will energy under the Dem's become an industry that is controlled like regulated public utilities?

So Diana, you'll be voting for Obama then?!

Your cynicism is a breath of fresh air and one that I am sure is well received on this board.

Our collective mission is to anticipate the ripple effect of her (and others') actions, if any, and determine how to best profit from it.
That way, we subsidise our own fuel costs! ;-)

Looking out for number one.

Diana, you are absolutely correct in what you wrote. As was Carranza2 in what he wrote.

Shumer is a perfect example of the politician to whom the prestige, power, and perks of office become so engrained in their lifestyle that their reelection, and the money-raising that is its lifeblood, becomes their holy grail.

Public service? These clowns don't know the meaning of the word.
