"lololol arresting most of MD's house and senate so they couldn't vote to cede. Allowing out of state(non marylanders for you people in Rio Lynda) soldiers to vote in MD state elections, lining the polling booths entrances with soldiers with orders to arrest anyone who was pointed out as a southern sympathizer. lolol yeah he was swell"

I didn't say he was swell, now did I? He agonized over the lifting of the right of habeas corpus. He gave several speeches about it where he tried to explain what he did and why. It still resulted in the courts deciding that the president didn't have that right. However, Republicans seems to have an affection for it, and Grant did it briefly to try to bring the Klan to heel.

The rest of the presidents, including FDR, respected it as a basic right. Until we got Smirk, who had his toady, Torture Boy, concoct the idea that it wasn't really a right that should be respected.

Why do Republicans hate the right of habeas corpus so much?
