I don't think that comment about the exact same tol plan being 2.1 million in CA and 600K in austin. The numbers seem off. I live in N Ca and Toll brothers houses out here, even the largest plans which are 4K+ square feet top out at 1.6 million (for the 5K model). I just looked on the toll site and found the most expensive CA home in long beach at 1.7 million but that is 6K square feet. tollbrothers.com this looks like the santa barbara area which is very expensive and it is priced in the 1.5, 1.6 area. tollbrothers.com the only thing I can find in Austin that is close to the toll houses above is this steiner ranch development, but these are between 3K and 4K sq feet with the biggest being 4500 sq feet at $620K but this is a little below the toll houses above (although the quality of life is better in Austin no doubt). davidweekleyhomes.com There used to be 2 million + houses from Toll in CA but I'll bet that was 2005. I think austin is about half the price of CA, but not 4x. JMO.

Many people from CA are selling out, buying an equivalent house here outright and coasting on the bucks left over, as I did. I guess when that ends, our good RE fortune will too! In Austin, the CA folks will have to deal with the brutal summer heat, humidity and bugs, especially roaches. Here, it's winter (and Mormons)..
