Obama is starting to get the scrutiny that EVERY candidate gets.

If he was dealing out "pork" and then getting contributions from the recipients of it, then that's fair game for people to consider.

It appears they nipped it in the bud.

Mrs Obama quits controversial job

Michelle Obama, the wife of the American Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama, has resigned from the board of a food company whose biggest customer is Wal-Mart, the retail giant under fire from her husband.

The Sunday Telegraph reported two weeks ago that her position at Treehouse Foods could raise claims of hypocrisy as Senator Obama attacked Wal-Mart for its anti-union employment policies.

The day after this newspaper's story appeared on US websites, Sen Obama repeated his criticisms, telling a union gathering that "I won't shop" at Wal-Mart.

Mrs Obama quit as a non-executive director last week, saying that as "my campaign commitments continue to ramp up", it was in "the best interests of my family and the company" to do so.

She has been taking on an increasingly important role in the presidential campaign in recent weeks. Her Treehouse links, little reported outside Chicago before this newspaper's story, would have been an unwelcome distraction. Mrs Obama had earlier also scaled down her work as a hospital executive.

Her resignation represents a clear re-think, as it came only a month after she successfully stood for re-election for a new three-year term.

Her Treehouse pay and perks package last year was the equivalent of more than £60,000, according to the company's Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
