Update on Paris:

- Chateau Versailles is HUGE. A real masterpiece of art, sculpture, architecture, landscaping, and sheer extravagance. I'm highly impressed by the visuals, but somewhat appalled at how much the French royal family helped themselves to the public largesse. Marie-Antoinette still holds a sense of mystique to me.

- Notre Dame is also huge and majestic. Once again, I'm impressed by all the Catholic-inspired art and architecture, but somewhat appalled at how expensive it must have been. Oh well, the optimist would bring up the New Testament verse about the alabaster jar.

- I just noticed how many sculptures are all over Paris. Even the train station, Gare du Nord, has a bunch of them at the entrance. Reminds me of the Lord of the Rings movies.

- Highlight of the trip: My wife and I happened to be shopping on Champs d'Elysees during President Sarkozy's inauguration. Yep, I got a photo of the President himself as he drove by. Priceless. (No riots, no protesters holding up signs "Not MY President" or "Pas moi president" or whatever.)

- Took an overnight train to Berlin, where I currently am now.
