Perhaps our innate desire to survive as a species is incorporated with a conscious desire to avoid death.

Fear of death is employed to create power by individuals and nations alike.

Acceptance of death would take away that power to those that would exploit it.

I am not afraid to die, it simply isn't on the menu at the moment, so I don't give it much of my attention; and I enjoy life as often as joy is attainable.

I'm not fearless in general btw, I've just never seen the point in fearing the natural outcome of a good life.
