No, I don't have a link, and yes, its been proven to benefit both groups.

This is what I am interested in, below you explain how the "slower" kids benefit from being with the "faster" ones and that is well understood and - actually obvious.

But how does the other group, the more clever kids benefit from being mixed with the less clever so?

Please explain and if possible provide some lateral to support that.

The slower children benefit by getting special tutoring on the subject from their peers; and nothing enhances the understanding of subject better than tutoring someone else in that subject.
