A person who has made something of his/her life can face death without fear.

Fewer people today really believe in life after death, in itself, perhaps a denial of our mortality. Well, if we cannot anticipate life after death, then we have to consider death. If we are no longer rewarded in heaven for our suffering, then suffering becomes purposeless in itself.

If denial is no longer possible, you can attempt to master death by challenging it, by rebelling against it (on behalf of life) while you are alive and healthy and then accept it with dignity when the "end" comes. That is not only possible, it has been achieved by many.

From love of life, one should desire a different death.

My dad really embraced death- as an escape from pain, and he was as skeptical as they get. He really really wanted to die, toward the end- and he didn't care what was coming. He just wanted my mother to stop authorizing procedures.

Just as one data point for you.

Personally, whether one is afraid to die or not depends I think on how you have lived your life.. My mom who is 79 is not afraid to die but she is afraid of becoming incapacitated and not being able to take care of herself..

I have always been acutely aware of mortality.. Even more so when I was younger.. Some thing perhaps to do with my father, who died at 27 while my mother was six months pregnant..

Is there anything after you die ? Do you have to account for what you have done here in this life ? We and I believe, yes we do.. Soul we believe is eternal..

FWIW..
