because the population wants large cars or suv's , wants power under the hood. and is not interested in drilling off the coast line where there is plenty of oil and gas. When the public ever gets interested we will do something until then the green folks, etc will run the policies like Gore and nuke plants will not get built, refineries will not get built. and detroit and others will not work very hard at improving the mileage in cars that will not sell.

Now comes the question:

Why can't I buy my 75mpg Smart Car in the US right now?

Our politicians should be working at getting them into the US market RIGHT NOW!!!

Some time in Jan., the gasoline version will be introduced here. Ten years or more after being introduced in Europe. The gasoline version will only get about 55mpg. Only two years later will the version that gets 75mpg be released.

The price target is around $12k - $15k.
