"They both imply we did something to provoke the attacks." No. That is not at all like saying that actions have reactions... or that policy choices MATTER. (With the benefit of hindsight, propping up the corrupt Saudi Monarchy for decades, and standing silent while they forestalled the natural evolution of their society by FINANCING the MOST EXTREME and VIRULENT branch of Islamic teaching --- Wa'habbism --- in all of their SCHOOLS, (birthing al Qaeda's radicals, and so many more)... might... just might... not have been the wisest policy to follow.) Spending TRILLIONS in the Middle East, instead of using our wealth and talents to build energy security and independence for our great nation... might not be so smart, either.
