Your snotty sarcasm aside, Buddy, we seem to have done ok in global competitiveness as we built what you call an "empire."

You don't seem to understand that America has a vested interest in the security of the rest of the world. Things that happen in other parts of the world impact us, too. Following your thinking over the years would have meant that Germany (and probably much more of Europe) would have fallen under Soviet domination, South Korea would be ruled by Kim Il Jung today, and Japan would still be a third world nation.

Countries are interrelated, what happens in one affects all the others. I hate to bring John Donne into this, but to paraphrase, "No nation is an island, entire of itself..."
