I have no argument there.

The point is diamonds are very popular for all sorts of reasons besides jewelry. They are also consumed at a great rate as they are used for cutting.

Single crystal growth of all sorts of materials has advanced by leaps and bounds over the last 50 years. A lot of the technology is transferable to diamonds.

Gas light wasn't natural gas either, it was gas from coal. We have the largest coal deposits of any nation. The defense department has switch over half our planes and tanks to run on fuels derived from coal. Two or three states are currently building plants to turn coal into diesel fuel. More conversion plants to follow. Maybe getting prepared for a possible show down with Iran? Meanwhile geothermal energy looking better and better to me. Too bad they don't have a decent lobby.
