Wolfowitz resigns as World Bank president 18 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Paul Wolfowitz resigned as World Bank president on Thursday, agreeing to step down as of June 30, the bank's board said in a statement.

"The executive directors acknowledge Mr. Wolfowitz's decision to resign as president of the World Bank group," the board said in a statement, adding that it would immediately start the search for a successor.

"I have now come to the conclusion that Alberto Gonzales is not only a terrible lightweight (known for some time) and completely unequipped to be Attorney General, but is also a bad human being....this stinks."

Sometimes we get someone holding that high office of chief federal law enforcement official who turns out (as in the Nixon case, I'll wager... and others) to acting be MORE as the 'President's private lawyer', and less the Constitutional office office holder working for the American people.

(This, to a degree, is looking more and more like one of those episodes....)
