Thast's true, if you look at the situation from the ethnic rather than the national point of view. And Kosovo has been part of Serbia/Yugoslavia since 1945.

However one looks at it, the situation is extraordinarily complex and I don't think can be decided arbitrarily one way or the other. And, more to the point, the interest of the US in the region has nothing to do with settling the age-old problem but is purely an opportunistic and self-seeking imperialist move -- a chance for a bit of divide-and-rule and the setting up of some bases while the participants are squabbling.
