I will be first in line. I wonder if the Japanese will be first to market?

I heard the vice chairman of GM, Bob Luntz, on a radio program this morning. It made me think that maybe there is hope for us and hope for GM. When asked what his ideal car was, he said he'd just introduced it at the Detroit Auto show:

chevrolet.com

It's a car that runs on batteries until it runs out of juice at 40 miles, then switches to gasoline to juice the electric motors and recharge the batteries. He said that in normal use, it gets 150+ Mpg! He also said that it and more models based on the technology WOULD be going into production.

Its a concept car......a slightly more advanced Prius. Now ask him when GM is planning production to start. How much do you want to bet they haven't even gotten to the stage of deciding whether to produce it or not, meaning production is at least 5-10 years away if ever?
