"The power is all electric, all the time. The tiny motor just runs the generator and charges the batteries." Which makes it more efficient. Gas engines really don't like running at different speeds. They have a narrow range where they are pretty efficient, but the rest really sucks. This should be mechanically simpler than the Prius.
