What I specifically mean, is that there is some ambiguity as to the precise definition of torture.

I would also say there there clearly are "enhanced interrogation techniques" that are short of torture, and and that may possibly result in information being gained from terrorists, but that wasn't the point I was making (at least not the main point) in the statement you quoted.
