Don't even get me started on immigration. My family came here from Italy off a boat to Ellis Island. So I have no problem with people wanting to come here for a better life. There is a huge difference between then and now though. They had very strict rules about who could get in and who would be sent back home on that boat. Maybe they weren't the most compassionate rules, but they helped guarantee that if Americans were going to accept large numbers of new people that we got a pretty good deal. There was also a different social contract between the government and the immigrants and less skill required to "make it" here back then. If you gave a man some tools, he had a decent job.

Now it's all bull crap.

The democrats see illegals and think "future voters" to advance their socialist agenda. The republicans see the illegals think "cheap labor" and a way to keep wages suppressed. You know, the jobs that Americans won't take because the wages are too low without telling us that the wages are too low because of the endless supply of illegals.
